EMERGENCY LIGHTING

Emergency lighting is lighting for an emergency situation when the main power supply fails.  The loss of mains electricity could be the result of a fire or a power cut and the normal lighting supplies fail. This may lead to sudden darkness and a possible danger to the occupants, either through physical danger or panic.

Emergency lighting is required in all premises where people are employed. It is a Life Safety System and is required to assist the occupants in the event of an emergency. It will assist in the evacuation of premises in the event of power failure.

Emergency lighting is normally required to operate fully automatically and give illumination of a sufficiently high level to enable persons of all ages to evacuate the premises safely. Most new buildings now have emergency lighting installed during construction, the design and type of equipment is normally specified by the Building Regulations, the relevant local authority, the architect or consultant.

It is a mandatory requirement to be installed where artificial lighting is installed. Remember, Emergency Lighting is designed to help save lives.

RAG support can carry out installation, inspection and testing and repair work on your emergency lighting systems in line with BS5266:1999. We will work closely with the Fire Service and local licensing authorities to ensure that you have adequate lighting for escape routes in the event of a loss of power.

BS 5266:1999 recommends that all Emergency Lighting systems are tested on an annual basis, which includes discharge tests, to ensure that the fittings remain illuminated for their rated time.

We also ensure that the batteries are in sound condition and that they have not exceeded their expected lifespan.

FIRE ALARM

"The Safety of life" is the first consideration when fire breaks out in a building. The occupants of the building must be made aware of what is happening and be prepared to leave if their safety is threatened. By being given early warning of the outbreak of fire in a building, the occupants will have the time they are within that building reduced, even whilst the fire situation is still progressing, providing they act immediately upon the evacuation signal.

All our Fire Alarm work is carried out in accordance with BS 5839-6:2004 along with any recommendations made by the local Fire Officer, and we take both of these into consideration when installing and Testing Fire Alarm.
R.A.G. Support can test and certify your Fire Alarm system to meet with the above requirements, and provide annual packages to include for regular testing and operation of your systems.

We design, install and maintain private and commercial fire alarm systems to BS 5839.

Typical installations include:

  • Offices & Commercial Properties.
  • Department Stores

We can also install additional sounders, heat detectors, smoke detectors and re-wire parts of the system to deal with refurbishments and new building works, including replacing sounders.
